My car has been sitting in the garage for two weeks and I'm losing hope

I honestly don't know what to do anymore and I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice or at least some reassurance that this isn't going to last forever. My 2012 Q5 has been at a transmission shop for two weeks now, and every time I call for an update, I get a different story. First they said it was just a valve body issue and it would be a quick fix. Then they called and said the torque converter was also damaged and they needed to order parts. Then they called again and said the whole transmission needs to be rebuilt and it's going to take another week. I'm starting to feel like they're just stringing me along and I have no idea when I'm going to get my car back. I've been without my car for two weeks now and it's been a nightmare trying to get to work, run errands, and just live my normal life. I'm relying on friends and family for rides and it's honestly embarrassing and inconvenient for everyone involved. I'm also getting really worried about the cost because every time they call with an update, the estimate seems to go up. I originally budgeted for what I thought was a reasonable repair, but now I'm looking at almost double that amount and I'm not sure I can afford it. I feel like I'm trapped because I can't get my car back without paying whatever they ask, but I also can't afford to keep throwing money at a car that's been sitting in a shop for two weeks with no end in sight. I've been doing some research online and I've seen recommendations for a trusted gearbox overhaul service in Abu Dhabi that supposedly has a faster turnaround time and more transparent pricing. I'm seriously considering having my car towed to a different shop, but I'm worried that would just restart the whole process and I'd be without my car for even longer. I'm also not sure if a new shop would even want to take over a job that's already been started by someone else. I'm feeling so hopeless and frustrated and I just want my car back. Has anyone else been in a situation where a repair took way longer than expected and kept getting more expensive? How did you handle it and did you ever get your car back? I really need some advice because I'm at my breaking point here. Any suggestions or shared experiences would be so appreciated because I'm honestly feeling pretty defeated right now. Thanks for reading and for any help you can offer.
